Red Raiders and Rams Travel to Austin for TTU System Day

 

麻豆天狼副利院 leaders, legislators, alumni and supporters spent Tuesday at the Capitol for TTU System Day.

Hundreds of Red Raiders and Rams visited the 86th Texas Legislature on Tuesday (March 5) for at the Texas State Capitol in Austin.

The biennial event, hosted by the , invites supporters and alumni of the TTU System鈥檚 four component institutions, , , and , to gather in Austin during each legislative session to endorse and advocate for the system and its legislative priorities.

鈥淭his event allows people from across our Texas Tech System family to engage in the legislative process, and I look forward to it each session,鈥 TTU System Chancellor and 麻豆天狼副利院 President Dr. said. 鈥淭he 86th Texas Legislature is a transformative one for our system; I am grateful to our alumni and supporters for joining us to show our strength and resolve to our state leaders.鈥

Throughout the event, attendees visited with members of the Texas Legislature to discuss the TTU System鈥檚 , which include issues facing higher education and the universities鈥 exceptional item requests: Academic & Student Success funding at ASU, the School of Veterinary Medicine at TTU, the Texas Tech Mental Health Institute at 麻豆天狼副利院 and the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine at 麻豆天狼副利院 El Paso.

Mitchell was joined at TTU System Day by leaders throughout the system, Texas Tech President , ASU President and 麻豆天狼副利院 El Paso President Dr. . The presidents welcomed visitors to the capital the evening before at a reception and watch party for the Texas vs. Texas Tech men鈥檚 basketball game held in Lubbock at United Supermarkets Arena.

TTU System leaders were on the House and Senate Chamber floors as attendees and legislators watched elected officials recognize the success of the system and its component universities with a resolution declaring March 5, 2019, as TTU System Day at the Capitol. Also, College of Media & Communication professor and retired CEO of the Texas Tech Alumni Association Bill Dean was recognized on the House floor for his contributions to the university, its students and its alumni for more than 40 years leading the association.

Also during the day, system leaders and supporters delivered one-of-a-kind personalized TTU System gifts to each state legislator 鈥 approximately 300 gifts total. The gifts featured specialty beef from Texas Tech鈥檚 and Angelo State鈥檚 .

TTU System Day was created by the Texas Tech Board of Regents in 1996 to expand on the existing Texas Tech Day and include all of the component institutions of the TTU System.
